Now Home… New Hikes

Today I went on my first hike in our new home area. It was amazing!

We did just under 5 miles at the William B. Umstead State Park. We walked the Loblolly trail. Isn’t that a funny name? Ha!

Anyway. My new friend, Sharon, and I met up with two gals (sisters) from a local hiking MeetUp group. The 4 of us had a great time. Hiking. Chatting. Enjoying the gorgeous morning.

After our hike we enjoyed a burger and beer lunch. Hung out and chatted. It was so nice to get out with some girls and just hang out.

I look forward to doing it again soon! 🤓

SafeSound Personal Alarm Thoughts?

What does everyone think about these?

I was texting with a friend the other day about all of the crap that has been going on in Santa Cruz County. Burglaries, missing people, gang violence, heroin addicts along the river, tweakers walking into your home, car and business trailer thefts, delivery box robberies off of your porch, murders and the list goes on and on.

Anyway, she mentioned to me that she is now going to the gym pretty early in the morning and having to walk to and from her car in a parking garage. There aren’t always people around to help if there was a need, so she was going to go and get a pepper spray. I told her I thought it was a good idea and I know that Big 5 sold them.

I spotted this, this morning. It looks pretty great. Easy to use. I wouldn’t put it on my purse, or backpack I don’t think though. Just because, a lot of the time, that is what the asshole will go for first. Maybe carry it in your hand, or on your keys? Maybe on the zipper on your jacket? Maybe have several in different places?

I also think this would be great for kids, boys and girls. Adults as well. All humans. Safety is pretty key in our world, unfortunately.

Getting assaulted is nothing new. It has gone on since the beginning of human kind. Why not be safer in any way you can. You have nothing to lose. I may have to put these in everyone’s stockings for Christmas this year. Not a bad idea at all.

What do you think? Would love your opinion… 🙂

52 Hike Challenge – Hike 1

Good morning!

A few weeks back I broke my toe and metatarsal during the night, as I was going back to bed from the restroom. Lovely! Anyway, it is pretty much healed now. A few discomforts , but nothing to really complain about.img_5162

I decided once my foot was feeling better I would join the 52 Hike Challenge on this past Monday. Well, I did it! I joined on Monday. Educated myself on the challenge and am going for it. I had been wanting to do it for months and am so glad that I finally did!

First off, I love to hike. I don’t get out enough and this is just the little extra push that I need.

My favorite photo of the day. Looking up at the big, big trees.

I don’t get out as much as I like, because I have a busy family life. No complaints here though, I wouldn’t change a thing. I just need to fit in more time for me, which can be hard certain days. I am fortunate to live in an area where I can find a great hiking spot rather easily at the last minute.  Woot!img_5168

Tuesday was the first day I had a hike planned. I was thinking a 6 miler up at the Land of Medicine Buddha. I have a favorite hike there that I haven’t done in quite a long while. Well, bam, I am gifted with watching my Great Niece for the rest of the week. No worries! I’ll just take her with me for our first hike together. So, that’s what we did.

It’s fun and challenging hiking with a 2-year-old. Challenging, because they are very slow and rarely do you get to do more than a mile if they are walking on their own. Fun, because they are so fun to teach about the woods and see the wonder through their eyes.

It was a GREAT morning hiking with her and nostalgic. I use to take her older sisters hiking with me when they were little. I can’t wait for the 4 of us to all hike together. What a wonderful day that will be!

I’m just so excited that I got my first hike in, even though, only just over a mile, I got it done. It was a gorgeous day and exactly what Madison and I both needed.  🙂

Movies that make you go hmmm…

I love a movie that just gets your thoughts flowing… What would it be like to hike the PCT? Am I out of control in my life? Would my Boys be sad if I died? Why haven’t I bought a new pair of hiking books, I love to hike? Am I wasting my life? What is my full potential? I wonder if I make my family happy? Does Andrew still love me the way he used to? Am I boring? Am I disgusting? Am I happy? I’m so happy the weather is cool today. I’m happy I got those counters decluttering in the kitchen today. I don’t want to die. What time is it? I miss camping. I wonder how much the train is to Oregon? I wonder if I make Andrew happy? Don’t forget to ask Dad if he can pick Devin up today. Maybe I should look into posting those bikes on Craigslist. I could totally hike for miles in my Tevas. I wonder what kinds of essentials I would need for a long backpacking trip? I need to book us a trip to the Treesort. I wonder which train station is closest to the Treesort? I wonder if Andrew would be up for a train ride? I wonder if Andrew can get some time off work? I haven’t ridden my bike for a while, maybe I’ll take it over to Perfectly Pressed tomorrow. I need to start riding that hill more often to get stamina. One day it will get easier, right? Why am I so hungry today? I wonder how many points that juice was I drank this morning? I wonder how many points beets juiced are? What the hell is with all of these “national” days? I wonder who decides and creates these “national” days? They’re kind of dumb, are people that bored? I would never do heroine. Why are my eyes bothering me so much?

My crazy thoughts for an afternoon. I must say though, that movies as these get your juices flowing. I like that. 😀

To Walk in My Town

I’ve been able to get out a bit over the past week and take a few walks.  I wanted to share these beautiful shots with you.  Simple to take great photos, even with a cell phone, when you live in such a beautiful place.  :)

Train tracks and daisy’s seem to be my theme this week.

New Year Resolutions

I don’t do New Year Resolutions.  I always tell people I am amazing at helping reach other people’s goals, but my own, not so much.  I’ve always put them out there, have even taken planning skills classes.  Complete with daytime’s, goal setting pages, etc.  No such luck.  I don’t know why, it all just doesn’t seem to happen for me, or maybe it just all doesn’t seem that important.  More important than the big picture.  I am more of a live in the moment type of person.  I think about things I want to do constantly.  For instance… travel more, get my ass to Europe ASAP, lose 50 pounds, clean the house, be a better mother, start cooking more again, get out the door and take that walk, finish emptying these damn boxes, work a my Boys’ schools again, and so much more.  What it all really comes down to, for me, is to just get up and get going.  Some days, not.  Some days I just want to read all day.  Some days I just want to get in my car and drive.  Other days I would just love to get on a plane with my family and go, go, go.  Today I am going to blog.  🙂

P.S. I miss my housekeeper.  Ha!

BAD, Fun Mommy!

This is how it’s been going in my house…

“Good morning!  We’re going to go to the swimming hole today in the mountains” (talking to my youngest two while they are sitting on their computers in the office).

“Good Morning, Mom,” they both say.

“Wait, what are you talking about? You made us go to the Boardwalk yesterday.  Why are you forcing us to do things that we don’t want to do?  I don’t want to go anywhere.” Complains my #3 Son with an exasperated and stressed look on his face.

“You know, you can get as mad at me as you want.  It’s summer.  We are going to enjoy it and life while we can.  You’re going to go and have some fun and get out of this office.  I can just take your computer privileges away for the summer, then maybe you would lean that there is more to do than just sit in a room all day and play on your computer.  So, be ready, we are leaving to be there by noon.” Then I left the room to make breakfast.

A few minutes later I walked into the office after my husband came in from outside and his conference call. “So, apparently I’m the bad guy, because I want to spend the day with the Boys at the river swimming at a swimming hole.”  My husband just made a quirky face.  He knows exactly what I’m talking about.  They do it to me all the time.

Then, my #4 says, “A hole, why are we swimming in a hole?”  While he is giggling and being silly.

As I’m in the kitchen making breakfast, my #3 came in and said he was sorry with a big hug.  Not once, but twice.  He is super, super sweet.  I wasn’t even mad or upset.  It’s nice that he doesn’t want me feeling that way though.  I’m thankful that he can say he is sorry.  I told him that we were going to have a great day.

I truly love my Boys.  Now off to wake up the older two and go through the same conversation with them.  Hahaha!  🙂

Road Trip with #4… Day 1

3 Tunnels      20 Bridges     1 Deer     2 Wild Horses

I had been trying to figure out what my youngest Son and I were going to do while my Husband and three oldest Boys were on their Annual Shelfer Fishing Trip in Florida.  Originally, I was trying to go to New Hampshire to see some great long time friends.  After researching tickets for several weeks, I found that the tickets were so expensive at this time.  I couldn’t find anything less than $750.  Times that by two, plus car rental, food, etc.  I just wasn’t up for spending that at this time.  So, I decided on a road trip along the Highway 1 instead.

Our morning started with packing the rest of our things and getting it all into the car.  I like to be organized.  Have things in  my reach while driving.  Easy access to food, pillow, etc., for Reed.  I don’t like to be distracted while driving, or having to pull over all the time.  We got it packed perfectly.

I was on the road at 8:48 a.m.  My goal was before 9, so I was super happy.  I figured with stops, it would be about an 8-hour day.  I was right.

It was just gorgeous today.  We got in the car, with the top down and took off.  We ate breakfast on the way.  Strawberries to start for me and chili-lime chips for him.  Happy, happy!

The weather was just perfect!  It was crazy watching it change in some spots from 58 to 79 within 5 minutes.  Up and down it went for about a half hour.  It was so strange.  Cool though.

Our first stop was the Pigeon Point Light house.  It stopped working in 2002, I believe it was.  It is an absolutely gorgeous spot though.  Reed and I got out and walked around.  Talked about the lighthouse, took some photos and talked about the caves underneath us.

I love that Reed was so fascinated with the lighthouse.  I hope we have time to stop at one, or more tomorrow.  Driving along Highway 1 is beautiful, but definitely the slower way to go.

My highlight at Pigeon Point was when Reed looked down over one of the cliffs and said, “This is where the mermaids and merman live.”  He is so cool!  I totally agreed with him.

We kept cruising along and enjoying the beautiful views.  Reed started dozing once I made it to San Francisco.  The one time I decided to use Siri and she takes me in a circle and I got stuck in traffic and completely missed the part of Lombard Street that I wanted to take him too.  He was completely out, so I didn’t even bother.  I just enjoyed my drive any way.

I love the City.  An even better experience driving through with the top down in the car.  The architecture, the people, the colors, the smell… I love it all.  It makes me realize how much I miss it every time I drive through.  It also makes me realize that I will never live there again.  I feel so fortunate that I was able to when I did.  San Francisco will always be in my memories and my heart.  I am just so happy to be back in California to be able to visit the City when ever I want.  Good stuff!

Crossing the Golden Gate Bridge was so fun.  I couldn’t believe how packed it was.  People every where.  Driving over, walking over, taking photos, riding bikes, on tour busses.  It never seems to lose its amazingness.

Several hours later Reed woke up and we stopped for lunch in …  We split a Burger and fries.  Reed said the burger was amazing.  Well, they did advertise that they had the best burgers around.  He had a super happy, full belly and I was excited to have someone to share lunch with, so I could stay on track with my points.Estero Cafe, Valley Ford, CA

Later we stopped to just admire the view.  I remember my Mother talking about loving Jenner.  I don’t remember exactly what she had talked about, but I know that she did.  I’ll have to ask my Father about Jenner, CA, when I get home.

Before we headed to our hotel, we wanted to make one quick stop to see what the Pygmy Forest was all about.  As we were driving down the road to find it we saw two beautiful huge horses running down the road.  They looked wild.  They also looked like they were playing and having fun.  I was able to grab a quick video since we were going to slow on the back road.  Wish I was able to get more footage of them.  They were so majestic.  They ran into someones yard.  What beautiful animals to have.

We finally made it to our hotel… the Glass Beach Inn.  It is super cute.  Our room is amazing.  Nancy, the In-keeper, showed us the Schooner Room to make sure it was to our liking.  How could it not be?  After walking through the rest of the house with all the room doors open, it was obviously the best choice for us.

We got checked in and we drug out things up the long staircase.  It was time to find some dinner.  Sushi was suggested by Reed, so we asked Nancy.  She suggested Off the Hook Sushi.  Said she had heard that it was really great.

We got changed and walked over.  Walking felt so good after todays drive.  Jumping cracks in the sidewalk was even more fun while walking over.  I love laughing and having fun with Reed.

Dinner was average.  Reed is a sushi expert.  So cute!Reed and I at Off the Hook for Dinner

While walking to and from the restaurant tonight we passed by the wonderful little art gallery.  This was one of the pieces in the window.  Reed and I were both mesmerized.  Yes, it’s made of glass.  Just love it.Cool Glass Merman Clothing

After dinner came Reed’s 30 minutes of reading and I started to blog and upload a video.  I suck at uploading videos.  I need to practice that more.  Actually, I just need to use this computer more.  It is brand new!

Well, I’m done with typing and Reed is done with me having the computer on.  Nighty-night all.  Until tomorrow. 🙂
