A Sweet Sunday

Today was a good day.  It stated out with watching a couple of episodes of Orange is the New Black in bed. Relaxing and easing into the day.

About 9:30 I rolled out of bed, washed my face, brushed my teeth, moisturized, brushed my hair, then threw on some clothes. Down the stairs I went. Had an apple and gathered my things to head out with my family to the beach.

Sunday is the rest of my families day to hang out with the guys and the kids.  They’ve done soccer, ultimate frisbee and now they are on to beach volleyball. It’s a joy to watch them all gather, join teams and play for fun.  All of the laughter and smiles on their faces makes me so happy inside.  I truly enjoy watching them on Sundays.

After a bit of watching the guys, my friend, Laura, and I walked over to Armida’s tasting room for a little wine tasting. It’s always a treat, both the wine and the wonderful company.

After some wine tasting and great conversation, I made my short trek back home.  I had some wonder food to prepare.

Today I made Falafel’s, Garlic Hummus, Basil Pesto and Mint Garlic Pesto. All from scratch. Everything turned out beautiful.  Super yummy too.

We had the Falafel’s and some of the hummus for dinner. I’ll use both of the pesto’s this week with my meals. Yum! 🙂

By the way… the hummus came out kick-ass! Maybe I should rename it, Kathleen’s Kick-Ass Garlic Hummus? Ha! 🙂

Pinterest and Me – A New Beginning

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about Pinterest and how much I like it. I’ve decided to add something fun and new to blog about. Using a “pin” on my Pinterest board and actually blogging about it.

A little background about Pinterest and I. Several years ago my friend, Lisa, sent me a message and told me that I should check out her boards on Pinterest and join myself. I looked it up and, knowing how addicted I can become with catalogs and magazines, I decided against it. Then about a year ago my Bestie, Tracey, brought it to my attention again. Oh boy! So, I thought about it. Long and hard. It took me several months, but then I did it. I joined! Oh boy, the madness had begun. LOL!!

I used to keep all kinds of catalogs and magazines around, turn the pages so they stuck out the top, so I could go back and see what it was that I wanted, or to remember that idea. When I was younger I used to even tear out the pages to keep in idea files that would forever get lost and forgotten about. Needless to say, I am a giant out-of-sight-out-of-mind person. If I can’t see it then it will most likely ALWAYS get forgotten about. This is just how my brain works. I am very, very visual in many ways.

I see Pinterest as a huge magazine, catalog and reference site. I just love it!!! I can’t throw it away like I have done with my catalogs and magazines that come in the mail. Yes, I actually have the recycle can right next to me now when I am going through the mail. I just toss it is and don’t have any more huge piles. It is my method to the madness. That is why I came up with this. At least I will be showing how I have been using some of my pins that I have on all my crazy boards.

Please keep a look out for the future posts… “Pinterest and Me”. 🙂

Throwing My First Baby Shower

I threw my good friend Kim a Baby Shower  on Saturday.  This is her second child and they are having a girl this time.  So exciting!  I was so happy when she asked me if I would have her Shower at my house.  I had months to get ready and the only think I had her to do is tell me her baby room colors and what kind of cake she likes.  🙂  I must say I am pretty happy how things went!

First I ordered the favors and then found wrapping at the Hobby Lobby that matched pretty perfect, I must say.  I also ordered gifts, but unfortunately they didn’t show up in time, so I have set them aside for future gifts.  I ended up buying gifts for the games at my favorite Hallmark Store.I also ordered a corsage for Kim (the baby in the picture), some “Advice for the Mother to Be” cards and a very cool Stork pen.  I sent everything home with her he after the party, even the extra streamers.

The cake was a MUST from Honey Moon Sweets here in Tempe.  They did the most amazing job ever!  I purchased my Twelfth Night Party cake from them as well, so I knew it was going to be just perfect.  It was beyond really!  The inside was marble cake, with a chocolate moose filling.  The outside was all whipped frosting.  All of the swirls, flowers, bottles and all other decorations on the cake were made of white chocolate.  It was absolutely amazing… not just how it looked, but how it tasted too.  We took the top layer off and had her take it home to enjoy.I was supposed to be with my Husband on a surprise Anniversary vacation, so I ordered the food and cake in advance to be delivered.  I didn’t end up going on that vacation due to my emergency Appendectomy, but good thing I set up everything in advance.  Andrew helped me decorate the night before… streamers, etc.  I set up the rest, then AJ’s Fine Foods and Honey Moon Sweets brought the rest.  It was perfect!

The day was fun-filled with games… tummy measuring, bottle drinking, no crossing legs, no saying baby and the messy diaper game, which was a crack-up.  A fun time by all I thing that I can firmly say.

I even got a message from a friend the next day asking if I would throw her one next.  LOL!  My husband was afraid of that.

I also got a text from Kim’s Husband and he said that Kim told him that the Baby Shower was over the top and that she had never been to a Baby Shower to fantastic before.  That made me feel good!  Parties are just my thing I think.  🙂  xo
